Moreno Wines was first established in 1968, when Juan and Salome Moreno started selling Spanish wines to the restaurant trade in west London, when Portobello was the heart of the Spanish community.
In those days Spanish wine and food didn’t have a great reputation in the U.K. and wines such as ‘Spanish Claret’ could be found. In the 1970’s together with their three sons, Manuel, Juanito and Paco they built a thriving business selling Torres, Marques de Riscal and Marques de Murietta to name a few, to the Spanish trade.
In 1980 Manuel set up Moreno Wine Importers as an Agency company, sourcing and distributing what Spain does best; wines of unbeatable quality across all price points, with plenty of old world character.
With the boom in Rioja, the birth of the Wine Bar and the emergence of the ‘New Wave’ Moreno Wines developed outside of the Spanish community. We were at the forefront of introducing regional Spanish wines to the U.K. where Priorato, Cataluña, Toro and the like were little known.
The addition of Chile in the early eighty’s was a key move and along with great growth in Rioja established Moreno Wines as an Agency on the cutting edge.
Today it’s the third generation, Abbi and Marcel who are driving the company forward. The last few years have seen the addition of a superb Italian range to the portfolio and a re-connection with the Spanish on-trade, now recognised as a driving force in modern food and wine, and respected the world over.
Moreno Wines continue to offer unbeatable quality and value on the old favourites from Rioja, Navarra, Chile, and Veneto as well as pioneering wines from the likes of Bierzo, Rueda, Granada Utiel Requena, Sicily and Piedmont amongst others, not to mention a fine wine collection going back to 1877.
