Rioja Baja, Spain
Graciano
Luis's natural Graciano demonstrates his unrivaled talent.
Producer
Production
A self-confessed nomad, Luis roams the lands of Navarra and Rioja looking for exceptional plots of old or abandoned vines to turn his hand to. His wines are unflinching in character and in his own words ‘It’s about fermenting the grape and putting it in the bottle. Making pure, honest wines.’ A total artisan, there’s a real no bullshit approach that makes these wines so exciting.
Hand harvested from a south facing limestone plot in Andosilla, Rioja Baja. The vines are picked at full ripeness. Once in the winery the wine is macerated on the skins for 60 days and then cold fermented using natural yeast. This process extracts maximum fruit and reduces the green notes in Graciano. After fermentation in stainless steel the wine is aged in old 500L barrel for 12 months. No filtration or clarifyling is necessary. 'A wine without makeup'
Tasting Notes
A big fruit driven style of Rioja, maximising the red and black fruit capabilities of Graciano. The palate has a razor sharp acidity but thanks to the time spent in barrel the mouthfeel is generous and ever so slightly rustic.
