The 03 vintage which won Decanter best wine in the world maybe a thing of the past...but Vinas del Jaro didn't lose their touch with newer vintages winning gold at Decanter 2017 too!

Production
Viñas del Jaro is the heart of the Vinedos Iberian operation. The winery lies in a very prestigious neighbourhood, nearby Pesquera and Vega Sicilia. Unlike a lot of its neighbours though Viñas del Jaro can claim to have won Decanter's most coveted award - that of simply 'the best wine in the world'.
Chafandín is a 5-hectare vineyard of Jaro's best vines, all over 40-years of age. The grapes, hand-harvested, are fermented for 12 days before 17 days on lees in barrel, then 21 months ageing. Barrels are 300l French oak, mostly new with some 2nd year.
Tasting Notes
The thickness of the tinto fino clone of Tempranillo mean a deep ruby colour here and a very aromatic nose of black and red fruits with spice, cedar and smoke from the French oak. Powerful but not at all astringent (signature Ribera). Will age and age if you can resist popping the cork!
