Rioja Alta, Spain
Tempranillo
From the oldest cellars in Rioja comes a modern style of Rioja with balance and poise
Producer
Production
Bodegas Ollauri-Conde de los Andes sits in the heart of Rioja Alta and boasts the most stunning (15th century) cellars you're ever likely to see. The wines though are bold and modern, and nicely complimented by a plethora of older vintage gems they have to hand.
100% Tempranillo grapes, hand-harvested from 40-year-old vines are fermented in stainless steel with daily pumping over. Ageing takes place in French oak for 14 months (half new, half 2nd use). The wine then spends at least a further 12 months in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes
Cherry and summer fruits are superbly balanced with toast and cedar. Very complex modern Rioja that, like many producers now, forgoes displaying the ageing criteria it has qualified for. Just focusing on making great wine.
