Mencia
The ultimate Bierzo Mencia. Single vineyard, century old vines farmed biodynamically.

Vinos Lof was born out of a desire to turn the old family vineyards into something special. Throughout five generations the family had acquired various plots throughout Bierzo that were traditionally sold as bulk to cooperatives, but in 2013 Hector and Victor (5th generation) transformed the winery into taking a more ‘burgundian’ approach expressing their terroir with very low intervention and biodynamic principles.
The century old grapes are manually selected from the best vineyard site in small boxes. They are then de-stemmed along with some whole bunch selection before being put in stainless-steel tank where the spontaneous fermentation starts.. The fermentation with natural yeast is combined with two daily pumps. The malolactic fermentation is done slowly in the 225 litre old oak barrels. 12 months further ageing in French Oak Barrels and several decantation processes are carried out, so the wine is naturally filtered before being bottled.
Tasting Notes
Superb precise wine from 100yr old vines from a single plot. Complex blend of brambly fruit, candied forest fruit and aromatic vanilla spice, framed by an elegant structure. Bierzo Mencia at its best.
