Producer
Production
Viñas del Jaro is the heart of the Vinedos Iberian operation. The winery lies in a very prestigious neighbourhood, nearby Pesquera and Vega Sicilia. Unlike a lot of its neighbours though Viñas del Jaro can claim to have won Decanter's most coveted award - that of simply 'the best wine in the world'.
Century old vines from Jaro's prestigious Chafandín vineyard. Grapes are hand harvested and fermented in tank for 20 days before ageing for 26 months in new French 300l barrels. When the wine is ready, only the best barrels are selected for Sed de Cana - if they're not quite perfect they won't make this wine.
Tasting Notes
Pure, expressive Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo's classic mix of red and black fruit characters excellently balanced with toast, smoke and cedar. This wine will get even better and will comfortably age for up to 20-25 years.
