Production
Vinos Lof was born out of a desire to turn the old family vineyards into something special. Throughout five generations the family had acquired various plots throughout Bierzo that were traditionally sold as bulk to cooperatives, but in 2013 Hector and Victor (5th generation) transformed the winery into taking a more ‘burgundian’ approach expressing their terroir with very low intervention and biodynamic principles.
Grapes are manually selected by hand from two plots "Los Cobos and El Foco". One site is south facing on clay soils providing structured wine with ample fruit and the second site faces west providing acidity and freshness to the grapes. The grapes are de-stemmed and fermented using natural yeast in stainless steel tanks followed by 12 months of old French Oak barrel ageing. During the ageing the wine is racked gently to naturally clean it and offer aeration.
Tasting Notes
A highly aromatic nose of strawberry and mulberry fruit. The flavours deliver in the mouth, held together by crunchy acidity and firm tannins.
