Fritsch Roter Veltliner 2024
Wagram DAC, Austria
Roter Veltliner (100%) · 2024 · 12.5% abv
Green-gold. White currant, pear skin and rhubarb glide into blossom honey and gentle spice. Mouthfeel is juicy and flowing; acidity is measured rather than sharp, giving clarity to the ripe core. The finish hums with orchard fruit and a faint almond twist.
Production
Handpicked grapes are fully destemmed and macerated for 30 hours. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel; malolactic completed. Eight months’ maturation in tank. Bottled filtered with a small sulphur addition to lock in freshness and detail.
Vinyard
Regional plateau parcels around Kirchberg am Wagram at 220 m, southeast orientation. Deep loess and 450–750 mm annual rainfall shape a generous style; vines are 6–12 years old, giving pure, unforced fruit while the elevation keeps the line tidy.
Pairing
Think Viennese classics with a lift: Backhendl with potato salad, veal schnitzel and lemon, or roast pumpkin with hazelnuts. Also spot-on with zander (pike-perch) and herb butter, or Cantonese-style roast chicken.
