La Quebrá, Garnacha 2019
DO Cebreros, Spain
Garnacha (100%) · 2019 · 13.5% abv
La Quebrá, made from 100% Garnacha, shows a vibrant ruby color and a complex aromatic profile. Fresh red fruits, cherries and strawberries mix with dark plums, subtle floral hints, and a touch of smokiness. On the palate the silky tannins, stony minerality, and gentle spice back up the notes of Mediterranean scrubland with a looooong, persistent finish highlights its unique typicity and elegance. A truly distinctive expression of its terroir.
Production
The vineyards are grown at 1,200m on granite soils with large granite stones between the bush-trained vines. They are farmed traditionally with by both horse and hand, including seasonal pruning, vegetation management, and crop thinning. Hand-harvested in September–October (0.5–1 kg/plant) and grapes undergo 3–7 days cold pre-fermentation, indigenous yeast fermentation, and 15–30 days maceration.
Vinyard
Rico Nuevo’s vineyard in Navatalgordo reflects the unique character of age and terroir. From a 0.3-hectare parcel of old Garnacha vines at 1200m altitude, just 533 bottles of “La Quebrá” are produced. The wine is aged 14 months in 400L French oak barrels and a further 8 months in bottle. Made without filtering or clarification, it preserves the authenticity of its mountain origins, capturing the essence of a high-altitude vineyard and the dedication behind this limited production.
