Mala Coste Blanc 2024
Languedoc AOP, France
Roussanne (35%), Terret Blanc (30%), Grenache Blanc (35%) · 2024 · 14% abv
From 50–80-year-old vines this highly distinctive wine takes its name from the locality known as “Mala Coste”. Golden yellow with silver highlights, it offers floral jasmine aromatics alongside poached pear, citrus peel, and subtle vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, evolving into fennel and hawthorn, with a saline, mineral finish that lingers beautifully. Elegant, expressive, and unmistakably characterful, it’s a wine that reveals its depth with every sip.
Production
Vinification and élevage are conducted across a combination of vessels for 10 months: 50% in new French oak barrels, 25% in one-wine barrels, 15% in egg-shaped sandstone vats, and 10% in temperature-controlled vats. This meticulous approach brings layered complexity, texture, and finesse, while maintaining freshness and a clear expression of terroir.
Vinyard
La Dourbie farms organically across two contrasting terroirs: river-bordered vines in the Hérault Valley and high-altitude plots in Rouveyrolles. At 350 m in the heart of the garrigue, Rouveyrolles benefits from northwest exposure and cool evenings, fostering optimal ripening and vibrant aromatics. Surrounded by thyme, rosemary, lavender, and juniper, this terroir of strong identity shines through in cuvées like Mala Coste, delivering wines expressive of their unique landscape.
Pairing
Mala Coste Blanc is perfect as an aperitif or alongside poultry, cheese, fish, and vegetarian dishes. It pairs beautifully with mushroom soup, bass with fennel, dry goat’s cheese, aged Comté, or creamy poultry with mushrooms—elegant, balanced, and effortlessly food-friendly.
