Massimo Mencia 2024

DO Ribeira Sacra, Spain

Mencía (94%), Sousón (6%) · 2024 · 12.5% abv

Massimo is made from Mencía with a splash of Sousón harvested from vineyards passed down from generation to generation and centuries-old terraces located in Ribeira Sacra. Bright cherry, bags of red fruits, silky, balanced and brilliantly fresh. A perfect example of an Atlantic coast red.
Production

Harvest in September and October. Partial destemming. Gentle crushing of the grapes to release the must. Maceration and fermentation in tanks.

Vinyard

Centuries-old terraced vineyards around Vilachá in Ribeira Sacra, planted on slate soils granite bedrock. The steep slopes—some approaching 85%—demand almost entirely manual work. Atlantic influence, strong valley winds, modest rainfall and average temperatures of 13–14°C help preserve freshness and acidity, giving Mencía and Sousón their lifted fruit, mineral edge and trademark Galician energy.

Pairing

Pair with grilled pork or lamb, mushroom risotto, pan-seared duck breast, or Spanish charcuterie like chorizo and jamón. Its bright red fruit, herbal lift, and smooth structure match savory, earthy, and lightly charred flavors.
