ODE Fernão Pires 2024
Cartaxo, Portugal
Fernão Pires (100%) · 2024 · 13.5% abv
A bold, expressive take on a native variety. Lush aromas of tropical fruits — pineapple, guava, and mango — mingle with nettle, crushed herbs, and subtle oak spice. The palate is textural yet bright: tropical layers balanced by citrus lift and a clean, savoury edge, finishing long with a gentle creaminess and saline flicker.
Production
Hand and machine-harvested fruit. Fermented with indigenous yeasts; 50 % aged 5 months in new 500 L French oak, the remainder in stainless steel to retain freshness. Pneumatic pressing and gentle handling protect delicate aromatics, while lees contact builds structure and depth.
Vineyard
From sustainably farmed vineyards near the Tejo River, where sandy-clay soils and maritime influences shape Fernão Pires’ aromatic profile. Old vines and careful canopy management preserve acidity and concentration, while regenerative practices build organic matter and microbial life in the soil.
Pairing
Ideal with grilled octopus and coriander oil, roasted monkfish with saffron, or cod with lemon and garlic. Also superb with creamy chicken dishes or mature sheep’s cheeses.
