Phinca Hapa Blanco 2022
Rioja Alavesa, Spain
Viura (82%), Garnacha Blanca (12%), Malvasia bianca (6%) · 2022 · 14% abv
Smoky, orange peel, tropical fruit and ripe apricot - we could go on... On the pallet, bags of complex lingering flavours with insane texture and creaminess. Long finish and certainly not your standard white Rioja.
Production
Whole-cluster carbonic maceration in large oak vat and sealed. Before fermentation is complete, the wine is pressed and placed into foudre where it finishes fermentation and ages in the same foudre for one year period prior to bottling. Minimal handling, native yeasts, light sulphur.
Vineyard
Single vineyard planted in 1967 at 640 m in Rioja Alavesa. Old bush vines of Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía on limestone, farmed biodynamically and ploughed by horse. Cool nights give freshness and balance.
Pairing
Excellent with roasted monkfish, saffron-infused paella or chicken in morel cream sauce.
