Szamorodni Tokaji 2019
Tokaj, Hungary
Furmint (90%), Hárslevelű (10%) · 2019 · 11.5% abv
This Furmint‑Hárslevelű Szamorodni delivers botrytis‑driven richness: ripe apricot, honey and subtle spice are lifted by vibrant acidity. Ageing in Hungarian oak layers in nutty notes and a delicate oxidative edge, keeping the wine fresh yet indulgent.
Production
Bunches containing botrytised and healthy berries are gently pressed in a traditional basket press; after a 48‑hour maceration, the must ferments spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine then spends 18 months in a mix of new and seasoned 300‑litre Hungarian oak barrels, building texture and nuance while preserving purity and botrytised character.
Vineyard
Rooted in volcanic soils with ideal exposure that balances sugar and acidity, these grapes develop noble rot alongside healthy clusters. The minerality and climate of Tokaj imprint the wine with authenticity and verve.
Pairing
This richly sweet yet vibrant Tokaji is a natural partner for blue cheese, foie gras or pâté, spicy Thai curries and fruit‑based desserts. Its interplay of sweetness, acidity and nutty tones complements both savoury richness and sweet spice.
