Tasari Nero d'Avola 2023

Sicily, Italy

Nero d'Avola (100%) · 2023 · 13% abv

A deep ruby red and oodles of ripe black cherry and thyme really jump out the glass. On the palate, it’s smooth and well-balanced and generous. Grown in the warm Sicilian sun, it’s a bold, delicious and very drinkable expression of the island’s flagship grape.
Production

Fermentation lasted 12 days in stainless steel at 26–28 °C, extracting colour and tannin while retaining freshness. Malolactic conversion followed in steel to soften the texture. The wine then aged three months in stainless steel before bottling, keeping fruit and balance at the forefront.

Vinyard

The blend comes from hillside vineyards around Marsala at 350 m elevation. Calcareous-clay soils support both drainage and structure, while the north-facing exposure tempers the Sicilian sun. Vines are espalier-trained at 3,500 plants/ha with yields kept to about 80 q/ha. Manual harvesting occurs from late August into early September, selecting fruit at optimum ripeness.

Pairing

Versatile and Mediterranean at heart: pair with caponata, arancine, or pizza. It also works beautifully with legumes, vegetables, and white meats, making it a flexible partner for everyday dining.
