Valdecuriel Reserva 2016
DO Ribera del Duero, Spain
Tempranillo (100%) · 2016 · 14.5% abv
A ruby‑red Reserva with concentrated reddish edges. The nose is intense and complex, delivering red and black fruit, jammy spice, chocolate and a hint of liquorice, with violets adding elegance. On the palate it is smooth and broad yet powerful, with refined tannins and a sense of noble structure. The persistent finish reveals balance and a distinguished, age‑worthy character.
Production
Grapes are hand‑picked at full phenolic maturity. After a spontaneous fermentation under 30 °C and a 25‑day maceration, the wine ages for 18 months in French oak and rests in bottle for two years, developing complexity and elegance.
Vinyard
Las Pinzas Valley on the Duero plain has been farmed for twenty centuries; Romans and Vaccaei planted vines here long before Ribera del Duero became one of Spain’s renowned DOs. The vineyards between Curiel and Pesquera sit on silt, clay and limestone sand at over 800 m altitude under a Mediterranean‑Continental climate, yielding Tempranillo with strength and depth.
Pairing
This Reserva suits game meats and classic Castilian dishes: think grilled or coal‑roasted meats and roast suckling pig. It also complements hearty garlic soups or any meat‑centred meal.
