Bright cherry colour with medium intensity. On the nose, great complexity and integration of ripe red and dark fruits aromas, with fine touches of the ageing (spices, herbs, tobacco, cocoa). The palate is balanced, rounded, structured and silky with a long finish.

Production

Hand picked grapes undergo a cool pre maceration and gentle pump overs during fermentation in stainless steel. The wine matures for around twenty months in French oak casks and then rests in bottle for several years before release, achieving harmony and complexity.

Vineyard

Viña Muriel’s Poncolés is a single vineyard wine from Lanciego, Rioja Alavesa. Planted in 1963 on an east west facing sun soaked slope at 625 m altitude, the vines mainly Tempranillo with a touch of Viura grow in chalky clay with sandstone outcrops. A Mediterranean climate with moderate temperatures and about 625 mm of rainfall shapes the low yielding vines (around 2 500 kg/ha).
