Vina Muriel Poncoles 2019
,
2019
Viña Muriel’s Poncolés is a single‑vineyard wine from Lanciego, Rioja Alavesa. Planted in 1963 on an east–west‑facing sun‑soaked slope at 625 m altitude, the vines — mainly Tempranillo with a touch of Viura — grow in chalky clay with sandstone outcrops. A Mediterranean climate with moderate temperatures and about 625 mm of rainfall shapes the low‑yielding vines (around 2 500 kg/ha). Hand‑farming and patience capture the essence of this Vino de Finca.
Production
Hand‑picked grapes undergo a cool pre‑maceration and gentle pump‑overs during fermentation in stainless steel. The wine matures for around twenty months in French oak casks and then rests in bottle for several years before release, achieving harmony and complexity.
Vinyard
The Poncolés vineyard lies at 625 m in Lanciego. An east–west orientation catches the sun all day. Chalky‑clay soils dotted with sandstone and a Mediterranean climate with moderate temperatures and around 625 mm rainfall nurture Tempranillo and Viura vines that yield only 2 500 kg/ha
